Tampa's Hidden Mexican Jewel!

Hello Grubbers!!!

Finally, a post about a hidden jewel in Tampa and one of my favorite Mexican joints, Acapulco Mexican Grocery. It's not a real restaurant. It's a small deli store with a kitchen and a few tables. This place is definitely not a place to bring a large party. It's a great place if you want a quick pick me up or remedy. The staff is very friendly, (ask for Angelica), and speak fluent English. Acapulco has the best Mexican hominy soup (aka pozole), in Tampa! And it is a great remedy for colds, depression (ha! ha!), rainy days and of course, hangovers. They also have a small menu of AUTHENTIC Mexican dishes, or if you ever want just want the basics, you can buy a variety of tacos, including brain tacos, (I know, right!!!). The funny thing about brain tacos is that it is pretty good and it's always the first thing on the menu to go.

This place is not very vegan or vegetarian friendly (sorry guys!) but you can ask for cheese quesadilla or may be able to get away with substituting the tacos fillings with just beans or other veggies.

One of my favorites things about this place are the two cooks who look like my great-aunts cooking up a Mexican feast! Their tortillas are fresh and have a variety of Mexican soda, including the Mexican Coke which pretty much is the classic coke with real sugar and in a glass bottle. So, if you find yourself looking for something Mexican, quick and authentic, then drive to West Tampa and hit up Acapulco Mexican Grocery.

Don't be shy! Leave a comment and let me know what you guys think go this place!

Bon Appétit!
